Toni Gonzaga is being called as a Multimedia star because of her skills that she can offer such as singing, host ing, dancing and drama. She can deliver a lot to the viewers. It is the same analogy in terms of using multimedia in the classroom.
According to Lamb (2005) Multimedia can be defined as access to text (words & numbers), aural (sound effects, music, & speech), and visual (still images, movies, & animation) elements as part of the teaching/learning process. When I first began to read the module, I firmly say that multimedia is easy, however, I was wrong. It needs and propel a different level of teaching strategy. All I know about multimedia is combination of text and video that conveys a message such as documentary movies. But it replaces with the idea that multimedia needs a different kind of approach wherein you need to actually put great impact to the students. It might time consuming but I guess the way you transcend your material can integrate in the hearts and mind of the students. The more sensory perceptions we apply, the more students will be able to use it.
Moreover, multimedia as product and application can definitely enhance the role of learning. Specific multimedia resources can be used to elementary students and even preschool level. Furthermore, the awareness and competency level of the teacher to use multimedia will reflect its attitude, awareness and relevance of the output given.
I chose a 3d animation because it basically leads to active participation which is an important element of effective instruction. Therefore, the development and use of your student participation area is critical in developing an effective lesson. The instructions you provide students within this area must be clear and precise. This kind of tool will provide students with opportunities to represent and express their ideas and construct by referring to their prior knowledge. It gives students a chance to analyze, access, identify and interpret the images. Through this idea, students will engage students themselves with valuable learning and encourages deep reflective thinking.
According to Lehrer, studies support distinct differences in way students retain information gathered and applied using multimedia versus traditional modes of instruction. He found out that students who learned through multimedia had made long lasting connections with the materials while students who just learned the traditional way had little to no retention of the material. It was also noted that the level of student engagement was significant.
So I asked myself how I should integrate multimedia in the future. Well, since this encourages active learner participation, I want my students to work in groups, express their own knowledge in multiple ways, construct prior knowledge and revise their own output. I want them to acknowledge the real world scenario and integrate it with technology. They should have an effective collaboration technique so that they value teamwork. Since they will integrate multimedia, this is the way how media can bring impact and importance to their own learning process.
I hope in the near future, I can be able to comply and integrate multimedia in terms of assessment, strategy and creative type of instruction.
KEY POINTS:
- Show students lots of examples to give them ideas about different ways to organize their information.
- Internet link verification is important
- Student centered approach and collaborative type of learning
- Relate the design and utilization of multimedia of the theories of learning
Multimedia environments allow students to explore information, discover relationships, practice skills, synthesize ideas, and formulate solutions by presenting text, graphics, still and motion pictures, and sounds on the screen. Sounds good? Interesting? But…
New Administration. New President. New Education Challenge.
Yes , multimedia can deliver a lot of messages-bad or good. According to incoming President Duterte wherein he has doubt about the country’s preparedness towards the full implementation of K to 12 program, can also be a reflection in dealing with education system of the country. The education agenda points that will link to instructional media will definitely be affected. As a Davaoeno and as a student and as a citizen of this country, I believe that our incoming president should strengthen and contribute in building a public education system (facilities, resources-multimedia, curriculum and empowered and competent teachers to shape Filipino students and develop certain skills to build a strong and self-reliant economy.
For other stakeholders, this is not only a challenge for the new administration but also a challenge to pursue and revolutionize a transmission of change in instructional resources such as promoting multimedia as part of the instructional plan of the school. This can hone the student’s learning and experience a technical and innovative type of strategy which is within the guidelines of Department of Education and CHED. Importantly, our centralized agency –DepED and CHED should be agents to create and reverse boldly the neoliberal thrust of our Philippine education system. Extensive research in using multimedia and channeling this to our national, regional and district educational institutions is a significant effect in enhancing our responsibility to develop the Filipino learners. Multimedia is not only visible within private institutions but also outside the four walls of the classrooms- public schools.
I hope that Duterte presidency is a change of the system itself-a system that has been rotten for a thousand of years. A change within the system will alwaays give way for a better change if not better at least there is a change. Change for facilities, resources and incompetent teachers. And lastly, a change of heart. HEART FOR THE NEEDY AND POVERTY STRICKEN CHILDREN who needs education more than anything else.
